Mandriva Free 2010





Just installed Mandriva Free 2010. I wanted to test other Linux system than Ubuntu. Why always Ubuntu after all? Well I am greatly impressed by the ergonomy of this systems.

I only had to install the firmware ipw2200 which I simply did by clicking on the rpm file, then restarted.
 I'm posting here somme useful commands,

urpmi

To install a package:

urpmi nameofpackage


Desinstall:

urpme nameofpackage

Both urpmi and urpme install and desintall packages with dependances.

Well, dare to change!

    Yes, there are good forums for Mandriva community, but nothing like Ubuntu, :) I think I will be back to it..

My Dolce Gusto coffee machine started leaking without even plugin in to the socket. Water was leaking at the base, the tank would get completely empty in a few seconds, so I dismounted the back cover to see. Use a Torx tool.  Fisrt start removing the two screws down besides the reservoir connector. Down there you see the join inside the water connector. That small rubber joint was apparently in a good shape but the problem really came from it. I took the small water filter and descaled it by diping it in white vinegar for a few minutes. Root Nook Simple Touch with updated NookManager

I have just rooted my Nook Simple Touch and it works really well. The screen quality is better than some other android readers which are really expensive on the market. After rooting everything flows and works fine, even browsing with Opera Mini. How to Change the Gear Shift Knob of the Peugeot 306

Well, last week the gear shift knob of my car got teared down in my hand as I was driving as you can see it in the picture. It was so really broken that the official knob from Peugeot would not fit anymore. The good thing about it is that now I can replace it by a nice one. But it was a real pain to figure out how to dismount it, the main thing is to lift up the leather bag around it first, from the bottom and then turn the knob twice to the left and then pull from it till it comes off . As you can see the white base support was broken too, so I had to dismount the whole thing and look for an universal knob to replace it. Well here is the gear shift itself all alone, I had to stick around it a piece of plastic and then tighten it up with a wire (I did this with my pliers to hold it tight), so that the leather bag will not move down later.
